Beauty from Waste 1/4/2008 7:57:51 AM

Would you like a tub sofa or a shopping cart chair? Reestore takes everyday waste objects and cheerfully turn them into charming and functional pieces of furniture and accessories. Founded by UK product designer Max McMurdo, the company produces a line of green products based on the recycling of old home products.

"We try to avoid traditional eco materials in favor of contemporary finishes, fabrics and above all style" says McMurdo, who is keen to stress that environmental consideration need not compromise the aesthetics and desirability of our products.
Max graduated in Product Design and Visualisation in 2000, from Bournemouth University. After a few misguided years as an automotive stylist in Cologne and a design teacher he found his eco-calling and founded Reestore in 2003, from a garden shed in the English county of Bedfordshire.

Reestore has a large range of cool products combining contemporary style with eco chic, but the most popular is Silvana, the washing machine drum that produce a beautiful ambient glow light. It was finished with a frosted glass surface for a second life as a cool coffee table.

Max is doing a great job for the environment as old household items are generally ditched to the landfills. Once transformed they become beautiful yet functional pieces of art. I'd recommend having a good browse on their site, as you'll be amazed and charmed at how many cool ideas they've developed.
